Hello world 👋 I’ve decided to share more of my travel sketches here, starting with this one from New York in 2025.
I painted this view while sitting on Ellis Island, looking back at the Manhattan skyline. I was visiting my sister and her family, and it was also the first time I brought my husband to New York.
I spent four years living in the States, and it’s also where Anhdraws really started. I was sketching constantly back then, taking my sketchbook around, finding somewhere to sit, and drawing the places around me. Those travel sketches became a big part of how I developed my style and, eventually, Anhdraws and Anh's Art.
So it was really nice to be back in New York and sketching again. After spending so much time painting weddings and commissions, there’s something very freeing about sitting somewhere new with no brief, no deadline, and just drawing what’s in front of me.
For this one, I kept the skyline loose with quick architectural lines and soft watercolor washes. I like leaving the details imperfect and letting the colors and lines capture the place as I saw it.
Very happy and grateful that I get to travel, sketch, and make art along the way. 🤍
